SCONE's first educational workshop

How to move from climate anxiety to action?

Climate anxiety and education for sustainable development (ESD)

On May 14, the first international online workshop for teachers within the SCONE project took place on the topic of climate anxiety (climate anxiety) and education for sustainable development (ESD).

During the meeting, led by Franka Marie Herfurth from the University of Rostock, we talked about:

what climate anxiety really is - and why it is not a disease or anyone's fault,

what exacerbates feelings of helplessness in students and teachers,

how education can help students move from anxiety to action ,

how to create an educational space based on community, empathy and agency.

We talked about how to recognize and name students' emotions,

we shared experiences and ideas for building emotional resilience in the classroom,

we learned about materials and tools to help translate ESD into everyday educational practice,

we considered how to build teacher communities and student environments based on empathy, cooperation and hope.

“Everyone remembers their favorite teacher. Not because of what they taught you but because of how they made you feel” - this quote illustrates well the theme of our meeting.
