A method that enables the effective inclusion of young people in the decision-making process

Roundtables are a collaborative planning and dialogue method that engages young people and local community representatives in creating solutions that address the actual needs of youth. These meetings serve to develop ideas, recommendations, and partnerships that can be utilized when organizing a Youth Democracy Festival or other local civic initiatives.

It is worth inviting representatives from diverse backgrounds-such as youth councils, student governments, NGOs, rural housewives' associations, scouts, informal groups, cultural institutions, schools, universities, volunteer centers, local government officials, decision-makers, and adults who work with young people. This diversity of participants makes it possible to view local challenges from multiple perspectives and develop solutions that meet the community's real needs.

Roundtable discussions can be conducted using the World Café method, which fosters a free exchange of experiences and opinions. Working in small groups at tables ensures that every participant has the opportunity to speak, share ideas, and co-create recommendations. This approach boosts participant engagement and allows for the gathering of diverse perspectives. No specialized venue is required; the meeting can be held in a government office, school, community center, library, or simply a spacious room that accommodates group work.

Conducting a Roundtable requires only a basic set of materials: flipchart paper or A3 sheets, coloured markers and felt-tip pens, and sticky notes. These tools enable participants to collaboratively jot down ideas, draw diagrams, create mind maps, and visualize the solutions they develop. The meeting results in concrete recommendations, a division of tasks, and lasting partnerships that support the development of youth civic engagement.
