EIT Water

On 14 October 2026, the Association of Polish Communes Euroregion Baltic officially joined the international organisation EIT Water as a Cooperation Member. The partnership agreement was signed by Marcin Żuchowski, President of the Association's Board, and Mikael Kamp Sørensen, representing EIT Water. The organisation is based at Aarhus University in Denmark.

What is EIT Water?

EIT Water is a European Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) operating under the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The organisation brings together businesses, universities, research institutions, public authorities and civil society organisations that work together to develop innovative solutions in the fields of water management, water resource protection, drought and flood prevention, pollution reduction and the protection of aquatic ecosystems. The organisation is based at Aarhus University in Denmark.

The mission of EIT Water is to address the most pressing challenges facing Europe's water, marine and maritime systems, with a particular focus on:

  • the degradation of marine and freshwater ecosystems and declining water quality;
  • limited efficiency in water use, recycling and circular resource management;
  • vulnerability to extreme weather events associated with climate change and external threats.

What Does the Association Gain?

Through its membership in EIT Water, the Association gains access to a European network of partners representing business, academia, public administration and the non-governmental sector. This will enable the Association to build international project consortia more effectively and develop new initiatives addressing challenges related to climate change and water management.

The key benefits for the Association include:

  • access to new European partnerships;
  • participation in networking and matchmaking events;
  • greater opportunities to develop joint international projects;
  • access to knowledge, innovation and the latest technological trends;
  • increased visibility of Euroregion Baltic at the European level.

New Opportunities for Member Municipalities

Joining EIT Water marks an important step in the development of the Association's international cooperation. Membership provides access to a European network of partners, including local authorities, research institutes, universities and businesses developing innovative technologies and solutions for sustainable water management.

Member municipalities will be able to benefit from new contacts, the experience of European partners and the knowledge developed by the scientific and business communities involved in EIT Water. At the same time, they will have the opportunity to promote their own good practices and solutions internationally.

The Value We Can Bring to EIT Water

By joining EIT Water, the Association not only gains access to knowledge and partnerships but also makes its own contribution to the European innovation community. For many years, Euroregion Baltic has been building experience in cross-border cooperation, implementing international projects and establishing partnerships between local authorities, civil society organisations, schools and research institutions.

The experience of our member municipalities, their understanding of local challenges and the practical solutions implemented in the region can provide valuable contributions to the entire EIT Water community. We believe that active knowledge exchange and the joint development of innovative solutions will contribute to the development of both our local authorities and the European water sector.

Joining EIT Water demonstrates the commitment of the Association of Polish Communes Euroregion Baltic to building modern international partnerships and strengthening the capacity of its member municipalities through participation in European cooperation and innovation networks.

Together for Innovation and Sustainable Development

Joining EIT Water reaffirms the commitment of the Association of Polish Communes Euroregion Baltic to building lasting international partnerships, developing innovative projects and strengthening the capacity of its member municipalities. We believe that cooperation within this European network will contribute to the development of modern solutions for local authorities and residents of our region, while enabling us to respond more effectively to challenges related to environmental protection and water management.
